Oral Health centre

Oral Health Kansas, a non-profit group whose mission is to improve oral health in Kansas through advocacy, public awareness and education, held a state wide
contest for children preschool age through fourth grade to participate for a chance to win prizes. Daycare agencies as well as classrooms submitted a variety
of oral health coloring pages, scrapbooks and videos of themselves in their daily oral health routine.

There were 10 winning classrooms across the state: four in Shawnee County, four in Haskell County and two in Harvey County. The local winners were Rhonda Roux’s
kindergarten class at Walton Rural Life Center and Cooper Early Education Center, where every classroom submitted an entry.

The prizes awarded included tooth-brushing kits including a new toothbrush, floss and paste sample. The tooth-brushing kits were donated by Delta Dental of
Kansas. In addition to the kits, winning classrooms received oral health books and movies, and supplies to create an oral health bulletin board.

Members of the local Harvey County Oral Health coalition Nancy Martin, RN, and Maggie Smet, RDH, delivered the prizes to the winning classrooms.

This was the second round for the tooth-brushing contest. The first round was last year, and there were two winning classrooms, both of which were from Garden City.

The local Harvey County Oral Health Coalition meets the second Wednesday each month working toward a goal of improving oral health in Harvey County
